What is Botox?

Botox is Allergan's brand name for Clostridium Botulinum Bacterium, a purified protein that is also known as type A Botulinum Toxin (BTX-A). Botox was initially used to help cause muscle paralysis or weakness for people with medical conditions, but in recent times, the cosmetic benefits of Botox have been discovered.

How it works

Botox injections are used to relax specific muscles in the face, leading to a smooth, more youthful and fresher appearance. This is done by blocking the chemical messengers that make the muscles contract. When Botox is injected to popular areas such as the glabellar at the top of the nose, the forehead and the crow’s feet around the eyes, the muscles in the specific areas are weakened. After 3-7 days, the lines in these areas are reduced, leaving your skin with a smooth and youthful appearance.

What we use it for

Botox is used for both medicinal and cosmetic purposes. At Armley Dental Practice, we use Botox for cosmetic procedures that can target wrinkles and lines on the face, including crow’s feet, glabellar and forehead lines. We also complete chemical brow lifts, which are excellent non-surgical procedures that offer you similar results to a face lift, without having to go under the knife.

What to expect at the appointment

Botox injections are very safe when they are administered by professional such as the Dentists at Armley Dental Practice. The effectiveness of Botox injections depends upon the strength of the muscles that are being treated. These muscles are different for every individual, so our Practitioners will consult with you to find advise you on the right treatment that will get the best results for your needs. Our Practitioners will decide where would be the best place to inject the Botox by examining your brow area and determining the strength of your muscles in that area. We aim to give you the natural and effective results that you want, so we will talk through the different treatment options that are available.

Most patients describe Botox injections as feeling like a pin prick as we use a very tiny needle. Anesthesia is not normally required, but your Practitioner may wish to ease any discomfort by numbing the area with an anesthetic cream. On your first visit your clinician will carry out an assessment and advise you on a suitable treatment plan and a quotation. Once you are happy you can then have your wrinkle relaxing injections. Your appointment will last around 10 minutes, and you can carry on with your day as usual because no recovery time is needed.

Aftercare

After your Botox injections have been administered, you may experience some mild pain, bruising and tenderness in the area that has been treated. Some patients experience a slight headache, which is a completely normal side effect. We recommend that you try not to exercise the muscles in your treated area for at least an hour; the best way to do this is to avoid frowning, raising the eyebrows and squinting. Do not massage or rub the area, and do not partake in any strenuous exercise or lie down for at least three hours.

Dermal Fillers

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are used to smooth out the creases in the skin and eliminate lines. They are most commonly used to fill in the lines between the nose and the corner of the mouth, and can also be used to plump up or define your lips. Wrinkle fillers and collagen injections can restore volume and fullness to your face that you may have lost, and the results of the treatments can be seen immediately.

How they work

Collagen injections and dermal fillers are used to rejuvenate the skin by reducing lines and wrinkles and plump up the skin. As we age, collagen and elastin fibres breakdown in the skin causing the skin to thin and sag, which then leads to wrinkles and lines. Cosmetic fillers are injected into the skin, and restore the youthful and full appearance to your skin whilst also providing a natural looking lift. The treatment offers instant results and reduces the effects of collagen loss and aging skin.

What we use them for

Facial fillers help to fill out the face, and smooth away unwanted crow’s feet, acne pits, frown lines, forehead lines, nose to mouth grooves and lipstick lines. They can also be used to add fullness to sunken cheeks and narrow lips.

What to expect at the appointment

At your appointment, your Practitioner will advise you about whether dermal fillers will be right for you by assessing you medical history and the results that you are looking for. An anesthetic cream is applied to the skin, and once it has taken effect, the dermal filler gels are then injected into the skin under the lines and wrinkles which you wish to reduce. You will only experience a mild discomfort, and the cosmetic injections take about 10 minutes in to administer.

Aftercare

After treatment, patients usually experience redness, swelling, tenderness and sometimes an itching sensation in the area that has been treated. After lip injections, the swelling can sometimes last for up to a week, but this is completely normal. We recommend that you avoid touching the treated area for at least 6 hours.

Our dermal fillers prices start at £199 for half cartridge and £399 for full cartridge.
